The end of the 2G network in France is expected from 2026
2G telematics boxes will become inoperative
Without migration, you lose geolocation, data, and key features
Fleets equipped with boxes installed before 2018 are the most affected
The transition to 4G is essential to ensure continuity of service
OPTIMUM supports you with a simple, fast and uninterrupted solution

In France, telecom operators, in consultation with ARCOM (Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication), have agreed to the gradual cessation of the 2G network from 2026.
This decision is part of a global dynamic to modernize mobile infrastructures, aimed at giving priority to more efficient technologies such as 4G and 5G, which are now widely deployed in the country.
Historically used for basic communications and certain connected equipment, the 2G network is reaching the end of its life and will be gradually deactivated in France in the years to come.
This decision will have an impact on first-generation telematics boxes. Equipment operating exclusively in 2G will no longer be able to communicate with mobile networks, and their associated services will no longer be operational.
Transition to 4G: is your fleet affected and what will be its impact?
Your fleet is affected by the transition to 4G if your vehicles are equipped with 2G telematics boxes (examples: Teltonika FMB920, FMB965...).
Your equipment has been Installed several years ago, before the generalization of 4G (which occurred in France between 2016 and 2018).
As soon as the 2G network is stopped, equipment operating exclusively with this technology will no longer be able to communicate with mobile networks, and their associated services will no longer be operational. Without this transition to 4G, you will no longer have visibility on your vehicles, because your OPTIMUM solution will no longer be able to function properly. Concretely, you will no longer have access to vehicle geolocation, no more data reports, no more access to your other functionalities. Of course, this is not final. Your equipment will then have to be replaced and your services can continue.
