The collection and analysis of driving data are effective levers for reducing CO₂ emissions and optimizing costs. Telematics specialists support businesses in their choice of vehicles and travel plans.

Today, most corporate vehicles are equipped with communicating boxes that collect information on the condition and use of vehicles in real time: daily mileage, duration and distance of trips, frequency of stops, traffic conditions, types of roads, types of roads, load carried, weather, etc. This data, once collected and analyzed, provides fleet managers with diagnostics, reports and performance indicators via a web platform.

Telematics players such as Masternaut, Ocean, Mapping Control or Optimum Automotive play a central role in this ecosystem, being at the heart of big data.

According to Daniel Vassallucci, CEO of Optimum Automotive, “data collection and analysis are essential to optimize costs, reduce CO₂ emissions and promote new forms of mobility.” Based on a survey conducted among its customers, Optimum estimates that its tools reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 1.2 kg per vehicle per year.

Driver behavior remains the main driver for improving the carbon balance of a fleet. Improper driving can increase fuel consumption by up to 30%. This is why the conditions of use (cornering, braking, acceleration, triggering of driving aids) are analyzed in real time to identify “bad riders” who overconsume.

But rather than adopting “Big Brother” punitive surveillance, Optimum and its competitors favor fun eco-driving tools. Beyond prevention, they want to go further in the decarbonization of fleets.

Thanks to data processing, Optimum helps its customers to better consume their trips and to refine their mobility strategy.

With its new entity Optimum Consulting, the company offers to support its customers in their fleet policy (Car Policy) and their business travel plans (PDE). In particular, she advises on the electrification of fleets, by selecting suitable hybrid or electric models, or on the charging infrastructures (IRVE) to be preferred.

In addition, Optimum also offers solutions for carpooling and carsharing integrated into its platform. For example, in Haute-Savoie, 1,200 shared vehicles are managed via Optimum.

Daniel Vassallucci concludes: “We are much more than installers of telematic boxes”.
