Challenges

Effectively managing a fleet of industrial equipment scattered across a vast territory

For over 30 years, Ortec Group has supported players in strategic sectors such as: Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Defense, Transportation, Aeronautics, Aerospace, Heavy Industry, and the Services sector.

Present in 28 countries across 4 continents, the Group maintains strong growth momentum in Africa, where it currently operates through 12 countries, 24 subsidiaries, and over 1,700 major industrial assets in operation.

Annually, Ortec invests between 15 and 20 million euros in modernizing its African asset fleet. The management and optimization of these assets are a major strategic imperative to ensure the performance of field operations.

Ortec Africa's asset fleet includes light vehicles, heavy trucks, generators, forklifts, aerial work platforms, compressors, and various specialized equipment. In some countries, these assets are deployed several hundred kilometers from operational bases.

This setup creates several challenges:
Difficulty in locating assets,
Risks of theft or unauthorized use,
Underutilization of certain assets,
Excessive energy consumption,
Difficulty in centralizing operational data.

Ortec was looking for a platform capable of providing a consolidated, real-time view of its entire fleet while integrating with its existing digital environment.

"We only had basic geolocation. What convinced us to switch to Optimum was the ability to also benefit from eco-driving, fuel monitoring, alerts, and the security of vehicles and drivers."

Solutions

A connected platform suited to the challenges of industrial assets

To meet its needs, Ortec Group chose the Optimum platform.

One of the project's distinguishing features was its native compatibility with HIBOO, which Ortec already used to centralize data from its equipment.

"The connectors were already in place, which facilitated the integration of the solution into our existing tools."

Real-time Location
Teams now have permanent visibility over their equipment, even when deployed in remote areas. This capability improves operational planning and the responsiveness of field teams.

Asset Security
Thanks to advanced tracking and remote immobilization features, Ortec can enhance the protection of its equipment and limit the risks of loss or fraudulent use.

Analysis of Operating Hours
The collected data helps identify underutilized equipment. Teams can then reallocate available equipment to projects with greater needs. This approach promotes a more rational use of investments.

Environmental Performance Management
The platform also provides valuable information on equipment operating times. Analyses have notably revealed that some trucks remained idle for nearly 50% of the time, leading to unnecessary fuel consumption and avoidable emissions. This data enables the implementation of targeted corrective actions.

Benefits

A Gradually Connected Equipment Fleet

To date, 59% of the equipment is already connected, and the goal is to achieve 100% coverage by the end of 2026. This increased visibility is a major lever for improving operational performance.

Better Resource Utilization
Thanks to operational data, Ortec can identify underutilized equipment and optimize its allocation across different sites. This approach directly contributes to improving the fleet's return on investment.

Expected Reduction in Energy Consumption
Identifying excessive idling times allows for the implementation of action plans aimed at reducing fuel consumption and associated pollutant emissions.

Ambitious Quantified Objectives
The Ortec teams have set two major objectives: to increase equipment utilization by 6% and reduce fuel consumption by 8%. These indicators represent the project's main value creation levers.

Beyond simple geolocation, Ortec views Optimum as a true strategic management tool. The Optimum fleet management solution simultaneously helps improve equipment availability, enhance security, optimize investments, reduce operating costs, and support the Group's environmental objectives.
